Real Estate Technology

As I am sure you are aware, technology is affecting every aspect of our lives. It is growing at an increasing rate and adding so many benefits, although it is difficult to keep up.

On Friday, August 22, 2008, I attended a tech fair devoted to technology for the Real Estate Industry. Most of the technology available was websites using Google Maps and the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). You may ask, "I am not in the Real Estate Industry, so how does this affect me?" The answer is.... it makes it more convenient for you to view properties without ever leaving your home.

MLS, a property listing service used by Realtors to find properties, has been significantly updated in the past few weeks. It now allows Realtors to send detailed information, including interactive virtual tours, to clients to preview properties. This allows you to view the property when you have a chance, while preventing the waste of time and energy going to properties you have no interest in. Overall, it creates an efficiency in finding a property.

If you are trying to sell your home, the technology your Realtor could be using will also benefit you. There is the ability to advertise your home through a company or personal website with interactive maps, images, and near by school information all by using Google Maps and MLS.

Look for all these features to spread over the next couple of months/years. Finding a home is in a new era.
